By the time I was born, both of my paternal grandparents had left this physical plane St. Patricks Kiss me I’m a teacher or Irish shirt, but my father and his two younger sisters, Mary Ellen and Rose Marie O’Connor, kept their memories alive. We had soda bread and other Irish treats including Guinness chocolate mousse and special scones. My father played Irish tunes all day long and he would drink Irish whiskey. When we were old enough, my brother and I also drank Irish whiskey with my dad, although I preferred it in coffee with a dash of cream. I don’t celebrate anything like my father did, although I might stop and do something special in honor of my paternal grandparents and my father.
Although my father passed away when I was in my 20s, he was celebrating St. Patricks Kiss me I’m a teacher or Irish shirt just a few months before he left this earth. It was my father’s favorite Holiday and he never let it pass without some sort of very special celebration. My father often tried to sneak my brother and I out of the house dressed up as little Irish folk Leprechauns or fairies to take around to his favorite watering holes on St. Patrick’s Day.
